Grouping/subcategories of toys
What a hodge-podge! Is there a Toys or Games project somewhere that might discuss issues like this? I started trying to put toys into appropriate subcategories, and discovered that there are at least 3 sets of groupings--
- Category:Toys subcategories
- Toys groups
- List of toy brands groups
There's some agreement and some different terminology and some different styles of groupings that aren't mutually compatible (might or might not be OK). So I thought maybe "we" should put some thought into subcategories for Category:Toys, at least, and work backwards from there? Anyone? Elf | Talk 16:08, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Good point. I think the "toys groups" can be deprecated in favor of categories. I don't see an advantage of that list that would outweigh the cost of its maintenance. (The bulleted list is awkward to rearrange. I tried it!) Nor do I see a point in keeping an unmaintained exemplary list there. (If someone really needs an example for what a toy is they can browse the categories.)
The List of toy brands is probably OK; it suits its purpose as it is. Its grouping serves a different purpose. E.g. "action figures" is an important group for brands, but as a toy category it is subsumed by dolls, if it is a category at all. Common Man 03:20, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
